When a check goes uncashed or an account sits untouched, the money ends up with the California State Controller. We find it, handle the claim, and only get paid when you do.
From finding the money to a check in your mail.
Step 1
We find money the state is holding for you
We search the State Controller's public records for money owed to businesses. When we find some for yours, we tell you how much it is, what it's from, and who reported it, so you can look it up yourself.

Questions businesses ask us
Yes. When a business doesn't cash a check or use an account for a few years, California law requires whoever is holding the money to send it to the State Controller, which keeps it until the owner claims it. The state publishes these records so owners can find them, and you can search your company's name at claimit.ca.gov to see what's there.
Yes, and it's free. Anyone can file a claim at claimit.ca.gov, and the state's agreement tells you that before you sign anything with us. Businesses usually hire us because proving ownership takes time, especially for older money or companies that have moved or changed names.
10% of what's recovered, which is the most California allows. There's nothing to pay up front. The state sends our share to us separately, so you never write us a check, and if the claim isn't paid, you owe nothing.
A photo ID for whoever signs, something that shows your company's tax ID (the IRS letter or an old 1099), and documents showing your business at the address the state has on file and at your current address. We fill out everything else.
The state requires the claim form to be signed in front of a notary for claims of $10,000 or more. We send one to your office at a time that works for you, and we cover the cost.
The state has up to 180 days to decide once it has a complete claim, and simpler claims often move faster. We track it the whole way and answer any questions the state has.
The State Controller publishes its unclaimed property records so owners can find them. We go through those records for businesses and reach out when we find something worth claiming.
Mostly uncashed checks, insurance refunds and claim payments, old bank balances, credits owed to you by vendors or customers, and stock dividends.
We only ask for what the state requires, collect it through a secure upload link, and delete our copies once your claim is paid.
